Global Communication

For so many years, Lang who is a Vietnamese woman had been searching for her true love. Finally, she found it after remarrying to an American. This summer Lang pays a visit to her friends in Vietnam. They are in two places which are far apart but keep in touch with each other every day. These may seem quite common today. However, can you imagine in the past how could people from totally different backgrounds begin a relationship, fall in love, and have constant contact even separated apart? With the development of technology, global communication has become easier, faster, and more effective. Global communication which is the process of information sending and receiving between people around the world via emerging technologies is promoting globalization. In the last ten years, our cultures, educations, economics, societies, and politics has become more integrated and global.
First, global communication is threatening cultural diversity. It has a significant influence on changing the way how people view their community. English is being learned and used widely. McDonald’s restaurants are located everywhere
Second, global communications has made education easily available to the most of us. People obtain information from the Internet and attend classes online. An increasing number of students choose to study aboard...
Third, global communication makes it easier for people to do business. Numerous online companies are emerging. Internet has altered the way people work and run businesses. There is also the option of video conferencing
Forth, global communication has changed the structure of our societies. As a great number of non-government organizations are found for the purpose of making our lives better, people begin to realize that some kinds of rights and obligations are shared universally. Global communication helps people realize that they are the citizens of the world, instead of the citizens of their nation. The way people interact and relate with each other has also changed dramatically…
Finally, global communication encourages the politicians of every nation to come to negotiating table and make decisions together.  An increasing number of international companies work together to deal with environmental issues, poverty issues, and anti-terrorism…
Global communication has become increasingly important to promote globalization. As the global communication continues to influences every aspect of our lives further and further, we are coming closer. We will see more and more interracial marriages and we will be able to contact anyone anywhere. And the world is becoming flat…

Brainstormig and Outline

Brainstorming: Global communication is people over the world communicate in a way more easily and frequently through technology. Since people now can communicate globally, we don’t have to go out or travel to another country to talk or to meet with other people. Everything you want is on the Internet, you can just your cell phone or computer and you will make friends online and see what is happening around the world. Global communication has a global influence on education, culture, economy, and politics and so on.

Outline:

• Introduction: The way how people communicate in the past compare with that of today (background information). Then the definition of global communication and its influences on globalization (thesis statement).

• Body:

a. Influence on globalization (I).

b. Influence on globalization (II).

c. Influence on globalization (III).

• Conclusion: Restate the thesis statement. Give some suggestions to people on global communication. And predict something that will happen on global communication.

Three example of things I learned from doing Clear Sentence

1. For parallelsim, some similiar elements in a sentence should be in the similiar grammatical form, such as -ing form, -ed form, or + to verb form. In a sentence like "The African elephants are endangered primarily because of poachers and a a diminishing habit", the nouns poachers and habit should be parallel.

2.When we compare one item to another item in a sentence, we should be careful of that what we are comparing. In a sentence like "Christopher had an attention span longer than that of the other students", we are comparing Christopher's attentions span to the other students', so in this case "that of" cannot be omitted.

3. We should be careful of word choices. Words should not be jargon, pretentious, or too flowery. In a sentence like "For example, practioners of medicine, officers of the law, and facillitators of learning should recognize the power of their positons", those words in the sentence are too big and too jargon. Instead, we could use doctors, police officer, teachers.

Three Favorite Stories.

1. Pakou Lee -- Story in a Box

  • I enjoyed reading what happens to Emily on her vacation with her fiance. There are a lot of interesting spots going on in her story. It sort of reminds me of Robinson Crusoe.

  • The story logically flows. And corrects grammars are used. Good word choices.
 2. Qian Wang – Memory Coffee Shop

  • Swapping memory is a very good idea. People use their own memory swap other people’s memory. And there are some coincidences occurring in the story, which is what people like to see.
  • The dialogues in the story are fascinating. And the story logically flows.

3. Emily Schleif – Dream of events –Story in a Box

  • When I was reading Emily’s story, I was like watching a thriller. What happens to Hailey is thrilling.

  • Correct grammars are used.
